RICO Lawsuits
The Michigan Law Firm, PC is a civil litigation firm capable of handling your federal or state RICO case.
The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act is a federal law located in Section 18 of the United States Code. Originally enacted as Title IX of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970 and well known for prosecuting the mafia and others engaged in organized crime, its use applications have expanded in recent years. Although more famously known for its criminal law implications, the federal RICO statute allows for the commencement of a civil lawsuit by a person or company to recover damages that were sustained as a result of a RICO predicate offense.
While, most states, including the state of Michigan, even have their own state RICO acts as well, RICO cases are typically litigated in federal courts. RICO litigants should know that it is not uncommon for RICO lawsuits to involve counter-suits for damages and for multiple litigants to be involved in the matter.
