This weekend during the Woodward Dream Cruise, superheroes and monsters will been seen on the road, thanks to local car enthusiasts who collect and create cars that are featured in popular movies and TV Shows. According to the Detroit Free Press, the famous vehicles could include the Batmobile, the Munster Koach, Lois Lane’s Nash Rambler from the 1952-58 TV show “The Adventures of Superman,” the ’66 Chrysler Imperial sedan that Bruce Lee drove in “The Green Hornet”, and the shaggy Mutt Cutts dog-grooming van from “Dumb and Dumber.”
“It’s fun to take these cars out and see people smile,” said collector Mel Guthrie, who owns the original Monkees Mobile and replicas of other cars from TV and movies. “People love it. None of us take it too seriously. We just try to keep the cars running and bring them out on the road so people can share our enjoyment. It’s a blast to see kids’ eyes light up as when they see these cars.”
Mark Marougi, an owner of vehicles from “The Dukes of Hazzard”, “Fast and Furious,” and more, said that he will have his Green Hornet from the 1960s TV show out at the weekend, and maybe a General Dodge Charger from the “Dukes” TV show. He is still considering whether or not to cruise in this car, as he thinks people might mistake it for supporting the Confederate flag. The detailing of these cars takes a lot of effort and passion. A lot of kids haven't heard of shows like “Dukes” and “The Monkees,” which is why Mel Guthrie replicated the Mutt Cutts van from “Dumb and Dumber.” Guthrie enjoys every aspect of creating these motor vehicles, and is planning on possibly replicating the van from “Scooby Doo,” which is another favorite for the children.
With these types of cars in the cruise, it can be difficult to remain focused on the road and not get distracted. Distracted driving can lead to auto accidents, especially when there is a large amount of traffic, much like there will be this weekend.
